Pictures of Moors and Christians Oliva 2007
The following are just some of the pictures that we took last year (2007) at the Moors and Christians festival in Oliva.
There was a parade on Friday night which lasted approximately 3 hrs with the Christian contingent, followed by a battle re-enactment on the beach in the early morning of Saturday, of the Moors conquering the land. (bring your ear plugs if you come to that). The Moors parade took place on Saturday evening and the final battle where the Christians re-took their town took place on Sunday.
It was an exteremely interesting and colourful festival and a great time was had by all. Many towns in this area have their own version of this festival with the town of Alcoy being the biggest and most famous. Oliva and Vergel are the next biggest celebration after Alcoy.
